Job summary

Sylvania seeks a Substitute School Nurse to provide direct nursing services in Bloomingdale School District 13. Shift is 8:30am - 3:30pm, with duties including patient assessment, medication administration, and health screenings.

You will coordinate with certified school staff and families to support student health, maintain records in compliance with state mandates, and uphold confidentiality. This position is not eligible for benefits and requires adherence to district policies.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct professional nursing services to students and staff in response to nursing assessment and in accordance with standards and policies.
• Administers medication with appropriate documentation.
• Maintains accurate medical records to ensure compliance with state mandates and immunizations.
• Assists with hearing and vision screening programs.
• Refers suspected abuse/neglect as a mandated reporter.
• Maintains communication with staff, parents/guardians to support health needs.
• Provides health information to promote wellness in the school community.
• Completes accident/incident reports as needed and documents visits.
• Maintains confidentiality and daily health office records and supplies.

Substitute School Nurse

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provides direct professional nursing services, first aid, illness and emergency care to students and staff in response to the nursing assessment and in accordance with professional standards, school policy and procedures, and state and local mandates.
• Administers medication with appropriate documentation.
• Participates in maintaining accurate medical records to assure compliance with state mandates, including immunizations, physical examinations, and medical conditions.
• Assists with the hearing and vision screening program.
• Makes appropriate assessment and referrals for suspected abuse/neglect as a mandated reporter.
• Maintains communication with the certified school nurse, district nurses, teachers, other school personnel, and parents/guardians to enhance cooperative action to meet the health and safety needs of students.
• Provides health services and information in an effective and positive manner to enhance the health and wellness of the school community.
• Support the Certified School Nurse in completing accident/incident reports for students/staff.
• Maintains confidentiality regarding all school and health-related issues Maintains a daily log of student/staff visits and documentation on individual health records.
• Maintains the daily environment of the health office facility and supplies. Utilizes existing technology effectively in the performance of duties.
• Utilizes continuing education opportunities to enhance professional knowledge.
• Performs other health related duties as assigned.
