Job summary

Cape Flattery School District is seeking a Substitute School Bus Driver to transport students on regular routes and field trips from Neah Bay and Clallam Bay, WA. The role requires a WA CDL with P-1 and S endorsements, a current medical examiner’s certificate, and a valid First Aid/CPR card.

Hourly pay starts at $32.93, with union representation and open until filled. We value safe driving, punctuality, and the ability to work assigned hours.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• WA State Driver's License with CDL P-1 and S endorsements.
• Current medical examiner’s certificate and First Aid/CPR card.
• Background check clearance as required by OSPI.

Responsibilities

• Drive school bus to transport students and other authorized persons over regular routes and trips.
• Perform safety inspections of the school bus and related equipment as required by law and policy.
• Maintain control of student passengers and report unsafe acts or conditions.
• Complete forms, records and reports as required by district policies.
• Successfully complete driver training programs established by the district or State.
• Operate bus in accordance with Washington state laws and OSPI policies.
• Operate and maintain bus equipment including fire extinguishers, chains, first aid kits, lifts.
• Clean and service the bus including interior/exterior cleaning, fueling and tire inflation.
• Operate all hand and foot controls per state minimum specifications.
• Complete clerical forms and act on trip requests and reports as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the district or administrator.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Have a WA State Driver's License, including a CDL (B Class or higher) with P-1 and S endorsements
• Must have a current medical examiner’s certificate and current First Aid/CPR card.
• Must meet the qualifications established by OSPI, including drug testing.
• Minimum of two years driving experience.
• Have or can obtain clearances from Washington State Patrol/FBI background check

Knowledge and Abilities:

• Operate school bus under all types of weather conditions.
• Must be physically capable of performing job duties (Details available on job description.)
• Ability to work assigned hours.

Essential Job Functions:

• Drive school bus to transport students and other authorized person over regular “to and from” school routes and/or on all types of trips in support of district approved activities both within and outside of school district boundaries.
• Perform required operational and safety inspections of the school bus and all related equipment as required by state law and district policy.
• Maintain control of student passengers as related to safety. Report unsafe acts or conditions which require the attention of any person other than the driver.
• Complete forms, records and reports as required by the state or local school district policies.
• Successfully complete school bus driver training programs and courses established by the State Superintendent of Public Instruction or the school district.
• Operate a school bus in accordance with the laws of the State of Washington and policies promulgated by the Superintendent of Public Instruction.
• Operate and maintain all school bus equipment and accessories including but not limited to fire extinguishers, highway warning kits, snow chains, sanders, first aid kits, wheel chair lifts
• Clean and service the school bus to include interior / exterior sweeping and washing, installation of fuel, oil and coolant, tire inflation, etc.
• Operate all hand and foot controls installed in a bus as required by Washington State (Minimum) School Bus Specifications.
• Legibly and accurately complete forms, records, time sheets, trip requests, route studies, trouble reports, misconduct reports, accident reports and other clerical type activities as may be required.
• Perform other school bus driver related duties as directed by local school district policies or as assigned by building administrator, transportation supervisor or superintendent.
