Job summary

Franklin Academy in New York state is seeking a Permanent Substitute to ensure continuity of teaching in the regular teacher's absence. The role is a 10-month, full-time position with a comprehensive compensation package and benefits, designed to support the school’s students and staff.

You will implement lesson plans, organize students, maintain a safe learning environment, and promptly report injuries or incidents.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree (BS/BA) from an accredited college or university or equivalent.
• Effective instructional delivery techniques and excellent communication skills.
• Positive interpersonal skills and ability to work well on a team.
• Successful results of criminal and employment background check and drug testing.

Responsibilities

• Implements lesson plans, motivating students to learn and participate while maintaining confidentiality.
• Organizes students for effective instruction.
• Maintains discipline and a safe learning environment in line with policies.
• Supervises students to ensure health, welfare, and safety.
• Reports injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline issues promptly.
• Completes Substitute Teacher Report Forms for the regular teacher.
• Returns instructional materials, equipment and keys to proper places.
• Performs other duties assigned by building administrators.

Overview

The Permanent Substitute is responsible for the continuity of teaching and learning in the absence of the regular teacher.

Employment Schedule

10 months, full-time

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential functions of the position may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Implements lesson plans, while ensuring the integrity of academic time and in a manner which motivates students to learn and participate Maintains and respects confidentiality of student and school personnel information
• Organizes students for effective instruction;
• Maintains discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive learning environment for all students and staff in accordance with school and county policies;
• Ensures the adequate supervision to assure health, welfare, and safety of all students
• Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
• Reports to office upon arrival at school and requests clarification of school rules and procedures, if necessary
• Reports all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible
• Completes a Substitute Teacher Report Form for the regular classroom teacher
• Returns instructional materials, equipment, and keys to proper place;
• Complies with and supports school and state regulations and policies;
• Performs other related duties as assigned by building administrator(s) in accordance with school/state policies and practices.
