FTE/ FLSA Status: Hours Range-Non-Exempt

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists in preparing, cooking, and serving food in the school cafeteria, cafeterias, or Central School District kitchen.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operates specialized food service equipment.
  • Assists in food production, service, and/or cleanup tasks as assigned.
  • Receives and unpacks food and supplies.
  • Cleans and maintains food service equipment and facilities.
  • Participates in ongoing professional training.
  • Observe safety and security procedures; report potentially unsafe conditions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking while preparing and serving food.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, and stooping to retrieve ingredients, utensils, and kitchen supplies.
  • Regular movement around kitchen areas, storage rooms, and serving lines.
  • Lifting and carrying food trays, containers, and kitchen supplies (typically up to 30 lbs).
  • Moving large pots, pans, and food storage bins.
  • Use of hands and wrists for cutting, stirring, scooping, and assembling meals.
  • Operating kitchen equipment such as slicers, mixers, ovens, and dishwashers.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Working in a warm or hot kitchen environment due to ovens, stovetops, and dishwashing stations.
  • Exposure to cold storage areas like refrigerators and freezers.
  • Primarily works in a school kitchen or food preparation area.
  • Assists in serving food in a cafeteria or lunchroom, interacting with students and staff.
  • May involve handling food near steam, grease, and cleaning chemicals.
  • Collaborates closely with other nutrition staff to prepare and serve meals efficiently.
  • Direct interaction with students and staff, often during busy meal service hours.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Prior experience or training is preferred.
