Duties: Putnam|Northern Westchester BOCES is anticipating a substitute Lifeguard position for students with disabilities. This is a unique position responsible for providing assistance to students and staff in the aquatherapy area. Assistance will include, but not be limited to, assistance entering and exiting the pool, operating pool controls and setting up pool apparatus. Duties will also include maintaining a clean, safe environment in the aquatherapy area. Candidate must ensure optimal use of the aquatherapy area (preparing areas for use, maintenance of equipment, etc.), and must ensure water in the pool area is safe for use (proper chemical levels, cleanliness, etc.). Must be prepared and qualified to respond to students or staff in difficulty, providing CPR and/or first aid as necessary.Qualifications: Candidate must possess a current lifeguard training certificate from the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, YMCA, or Boy Scouts of America; and must maintain current certification in first aid and CPR. Must be well organized and exhibit an ability to think quickly and adapt to a changing environment. Must have strong interpersonal skills to work well with students, administrators, teachers, and support staff.Characteristics Desired: Positive, can-do attitude. When the pool is not operational, the successful candidate will display a willingness to assistant the department wherever possible, as needed.
