Position Overview

The Substitute (Sub) Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) provides health services to students, including first aid, emergency care, and specialized procedures within scope of practice. Under the supervision of a District Nurse, Sub LVNs assist with health care referrals, mandated screenings, immunization records, and more. They work across various school sites in elementary and middle schools, generally from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, with hours not guaranteed as this is a substitute position without benefits.

Requirements and Qualifications
  • California Licensed Vocational Nurse certificate
  • First Aid and CPR certifications
  • Valid California Class C Driver’s License
  • Experience with trachea suctioning, gastrostomy-tubes, ventilators, stoma care, or working with severely medically fragile individuals is desirable.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Medical practices, terminology, equipment
  • Licensed vocational nursing skills and procedures
  • Legal regulations including HIPAA
  • Safe medication administration
  • Emergency procedures and health and safety regulations
  • Record-keeping and report writing

  • Bend, kneel, crouch, reach overhead, sit or stand for extended periods
