Starting immediately, you will assist with instructional activities, classroom routines, and supervision during meals and field trips, while maintaining confidentiality and collaborating with teachers and parents.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Bilingual in Yup’ik and English preferred.
• Demonstrated experience working with young people with special needs in a school setting preferred.
• Ability to carry out instructional activities with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Works with a specific student to present and reinforce lessons planned by the teacher.
• Sets up and operates equipment required by specific students.
• Assists the students with non-instructional classroom duties such as snack, restroom, and clothing routines.
• Assists with the supervision of students during lunch periods, assemblies, play periods, and on field trips.
• Alerts the teacher of any problem or special information about the students.
• Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students and fellow employees as is expected of teachers.
• Maintains a sense of responsibility and positive attitude toward students and fellow employees.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Description

On a substitute basis, provide services to intensive needs students based on the need of the student’s Individualized Educational Plan (IEP).

• High School Diploma or GED required.


• Bilingual in Yup’ik and English preferred.


• Demonstrated successful experience working with young people with special needs in a school setting preferred.


• Ability to carry out instructional activities with a minimum of direct supervision.


• Willingness to participate in future training programs as required.


• Ability to communicate effectively with teachers, students, and parents.


• Current first aide/CPR certificate preferred.


• Ability to live and work in a cross-cultural, rural Alaskan environment.


• Ability to successfully carry out the duties described below.
