Job summary

Kuinerrarmiut Elitnaurviat in Quinhagak, Alaska seeks a Substitute Intensive Needs Aide I to support students with IEP goals in a rural, cross-cultural school setting. You will assist with instructional activities, supervision, and daily routines under the guidance of teachers.

The role is part-time and requires a high school diploma or GED; Yup’ik language skills are a plus, and prior experience with special needs students is preferred. Exemplar communication and confidentiality are essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Bilingual in Yup’ik and English preferred.

• Ability to carry out instructional activities with minimal direct supervision.
• Willingness to participate in future training programs as required.
• Ability to communicate effectively with teachers, students, and parents.
• First aid/CPR certificate preferred.
• Ability to live and work in a cross-cultural, rural Alaskan environment.

Responsibilities

• Works with a specific student to present and reinforce lessons planned by the teacher.
• Sets up and operates equipment required by the student.
• Assists with non-instructional classroom duties (snack, restroom, clothing routines).
• Assists with supervision during lunch, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.
• Alerts the teacher to any problem or special information about the students.
• Maintains ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students and staff.
• Maintains responsibility and positive attitude toward students and staff.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Description

On a substitute basis, provide services to intensive needs students based on the need of the student’s Individualized Educational Plan (IEP).

• 1. High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2. Bilingual in Yup’ik and English preferred.
• 3. Demonstrated successful experience working with young people with special needs in a school setting preferred.
• 4. Ability to carry out instructional activities with a minimum of direct supervision.
• 5. Willingness to participate in future training programs as required.
• 6. Ability to communicate effectively with teachers, students, and parents.
• 7. Current first aide/CPR certificate preferred.
• 8. Ability to live and work in a cross-cultural, rural Alaskan environment.
• 9. Ability to successfully carry out the duties described below.

Duties:
