Job summary

Wappingers Central School District is looking for a Teaching Assistant in Hopewell Junction, NY. The ideal candidate will assist teachers by working with students on various instructional projects and prepare lesson plans.

Job description

Responsibilities

• Assists teachers by working with individual pupils or groups of pupils on special instructional projects.
• Assists in preparing lesson plans, individualized education programs (IEPs) and student grades.
• Prepares planned instructional materials, attendance reports and class reports.
• Supervises student involved in non‑classroom activities under the general supervision of a teacher.
• Implements/follows teachers instructions of classroom procedures; reinforcement, philosophy and consistency.
• Makes appropriate referrals when difficulties arise and teacher is not readily available.
• Assists with clerical duties related to instruction.
• Demonstrates an understanding of students’ problems, keeps a firm hand, yet is courteous.
• Attends Open House and grade level meetings.
• Keeps records, writes lessons on the board, corrects students’ work.
• Does related work as required.
• Understands and is aware of medical needs of students.
• Assists with behavior management programs and techniques.
• Feeds or helps students feed themselves.
• Assists students with toileting.
• Pushes student in wheelchair.
• Assists with loading and unloading of students on the buses.
• Does related work as required.

Qualifications

• Level 1, Initial, or Permanent Teaching Assistant Certificate OR New York State Assessment of Teaching Assistant Skills (ATAS) Exam Pass Confirmation.
• AND First Aid/CPR Certification
• Fingerprint clearance through NYS TEACH (NYSED) is required (Applicant for Employee).

Hiring Process
