Job summary

J.O. Combs Unified School District is seeking a Substitute Health Assistant to provide clerical and clinical support addressing student health needs at the district. You will assist the nurse, manage basic care, and refer ill or injured students as needed.

Requirements include Medical Assistant Certificate, CPR for Health Care Providers, First Aid, and a DPS IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card; bilingual ability preferred. Work calendar is 10 months. Hours vary.

Qualifications

• Medical Assistant Certificate required.
• CPR Certification for Health Care Provider required.
• First Aid Certification required.
• DPS IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card required.
• Bi-lingual ability preferred.
• General clerical skills and computer data entry experience preferred.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Ability to relate and communicate with teachers, parents, students, all school employees and the public.

Responsibilities

• Assists nurse, students, and other school personnel for specialized treatments and monitoring.
• Consults with the RN on emergencies, neglect/abuse, assessment needs, and infectious diseases.
• Follows universal precautions and infection control procedures.
• Maintains confidentiality of students and records.
• Maintains medical emergency cards and health records.
• Performs record keeping and clerical functions (scheduling, copying, faxing).
• Prepares written materials for compliance and documentation.
• Responds to inquiries from students, staff, and parents.
• Supervises students referred for illness.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
