Job summary

Catholic Community Schools is seeking on-call substitute teachers for grades 6-12 to cover classes in the Catholic school network. You will follow established lesson plans, support classroom routines, and maintain a safe, respectful learning environment in the teacher's absence.

Responsibilities include taking attendance, supervising students, handling behavior per policy, and communicating with families and staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree required.
• Preferred: Minnesota Teaching License or Short Call Substitute License.
• Experience with middle/high school students.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Background screening and safe environment training completed.

Job description

Cathedral is seeking On-call Substitute Teachers for Grades 6-12.

Position Summary

The substitute teacher provides instruction, maintains classroom routines, and supports a safe and welcoming learning environment in the classroom teacher’s absence. The substitute teacher follows established lesson plans and school procedures while supporting the Catholic mission, vision, pillars, and goals of Catholic Community Schools.

Responsibilities

• Follow the classroom teacher’s lesson plans, instructional directions, and established routines, seeking administrative guidance when plans are unavailable or adjustments are needed.
• Take attendance accurately and follow school attendance procedures.
• Maintain a respectful classroom environment and address student behavior in accordance with school procedures.
• Supervise students during classroom activities and other assigned duties.
• Follow school safety and emergency procedures and promptly report injuries, incidents, and concerns.
• Follow applicable child-protection and mandated-reporting requirements.
• Protect confidential student and family information and maintain professional boundaries.
• Use school-approved technology and instructional resources.
• Communicate respectfully and professionally with students, families, faculty, staff, and administrators.
• Support Catholic school routines and activities as directed.
• Avoid assigning significant new work or changing the teacher’s instructional program without administrative direction.
• Leave a brief summary of completed lessons, student progress, and matters requiring follow-up.
• Perform other duties related to the assignment as directed by the principal or designee.

Qualifications

• Required: Bachelor's Degree.
• Preferred: Current Minnesota Teaching License, or Short Call Substitute Teaching License.
• Experience working with children, preferably in a middle or high school setting.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Dependability, flexibility, and sound judgment
• Willingness to support the mission of Catholic Community Schools.
• Successful completion of required background screening and school or diocesan safe-environment training before beginning assignments.
• Ability to perform essential classroom and student-supervision duties, with or without reasonable accommodations.

Position Information

• Schedule: On-call; assignments offered as needed.
• Daily Rate: $150.00 for a full-day assignment.
• Earned Sick and Safe Time: Accrues at one hour for every 30 hours worked, in accordance with CCS policy and applicable Minnesota law.
• Benefits: Not eligible for the regular employee benefits package. Legally required benefits and leave apply.
