Job summary

Benton Community School District is seeking a Part-time Substitute Food Service Worker to support meal preparation and service at the district’s facilities. The role involves following recipes, maintaining sanitation, and assisting with serving and cleanup in a school kitchen.

Responsibilities include adherence to safety, proper handling of foods, and coordinating with the Food Service Director. Requires a high school diploma or GED and regular attendance; on-call hours and variable locations

Qualifications

• Certified on an employees medical examination form to be fully qualified in health.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Must be able to read and calculate standardized recipes and have experience and/or knowledge in quantity food preparation.
• Regular attendance.

• Follow oral or written directions.
• Use proper preparation of foods and ensure quality by sight, smell and taste.
• Prepare main dish and other foods from recipes using weights and measures and adjust accordingly.
• Check with manager as to amounts of food to be prepared and satellite daily.
• Assist with serving and clean up of equipment such as stoves, refrigerators, pots, pans, and satellite equipment.
• Maintain high standards of sanitation and safety.
• Help in any areas when needed; may use all equipment.
• Assist manager in proper handling, storage, and rotation of foods.
• Notify manager when supplies are needed or when equipment needs maintenance or repair.
• Maintain records/recipes as needed in an organized manner.
• Perform all other related food service duties as directed.
• Handle chemicals in commercial strength detergents and cleaning solutions.

JOB GOAL: Prepares or assists in the preparation, cooking, and serving of a variety of nutritious and attractive foods to students in a safe and cost effective manner that supports the goals of the District.

• Must be able to work in a standing and/or walking position for long periods of time under conditions of extreme temperatures.


• Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 53 pounds efficiently.


• Must have manual dexterity to operate and handle equipment related to all aspects of general food preparation in a way that ensures safety while performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, stand, talk or hear, taste or smell, walk and use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate tools or controls.

• Commercial kitchen setting including (hard) surface floors and extreme temperatures ranging from 32 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit. The noise level in the work environment is quiet/moderately loud/loud.


• Employee must wear uniform and appropriate hair restraints (approved by Food Service Director and/or state/county authority) at all times in food preparation and dining areas.


• Must have ability to tolerate chemicals in commercial strength detergents and cleaning solutions.

Days of service as specified in contract language. Salary established by the Board.
