Substitute educational aides provide essential support in the classroom to ensure the well-being and educational progress of students in grades k-12. They assist teachers, special education staff, and other educators in various settings, with a critical role in supporting students, especially those with disabilities or diverse learning needs.
Location varies based on need.
Pay: $17.47/hour
Key Responsibilities
- Classroom Support
- Assist the classroom teacher in implementing lesson plans and classroom activities.
- Provide one‑on‑one or small‐group support to students with diverse needs.
- Encourage student engagement and participation in classroom activities.
- Special Education Support
- Work with students with special needs, providing assistance with tasks related to their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Implement behavior management plans and interventions as directed.
- Assist in adapting materials and instructional strategies for individual students.
- Student Supervision
- Monitor and supervise students during classroom activities, transitions, and breaks.
- Ensure the safety and well‑being of students by addressing any safety concerns.
- Help students with daily routines.
- Behavior Management
- Implement behavior management strategies in line with classroom and school guidelines.
- Help de‑escalate conflicts and address challenging behaviors.
- Maintain a positive and inclusive classroom atmosphere.
- Administrative Tasks
- Assist in maintaining records of student attendance and progress.
- Help with clerical tasks, such as photocopying, organizing materials, and record‑keeping.
- Collaborate with regular staff to support the smooth operation of the classroom.
- Communication
- Communicate effectively with students, teachers, and other school staff.
- Report concerns or incidents to the classroom teacher or school administration.
- Maintain open and supportive communication with parents or guardians.
- Adaptability
- Be prepared to work in various classrooms and settings, adapting to the needs of different students and teachers.
- Follow the instructions and guidelines provided by the classroom teacher or school staff.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in working with students.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and adapt to various classroom environments.
- Hold an educational aide license with the Ohio Department of Education.
- Maintain a record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment.
