Job Description

Under general supervision performs a variety of custodial duties in support of classroom and administrative operations. Responsibilities include, but may not be limited to, tasks that require maintaining the cleanliness, good order, sanitary and secure condition of schools and/or administrative spaces. Custodians must be capable of working reliably and independently to carry out assigned tasks and work schedules.

Essential Functions

• THIS IS A SECOND SHIFT POSITION
• Sweeps, mops, waxes, dusts
• Washes windows, walls, floors, chalkboards, and furnishings
• Picks up paper and other debris, empties and cleans trash receptacles
• rearranges and moves furnishings, transports and delivers educational supplies
• operates vacuums, floor machines, buffers, and carpet cleaning equipment in addition to any new equipment introduced to the facility

Knowledge of

• methods, materials, and equipment related to the cleaning and maintenance of various surfaces, furniture, and equipment common to schools
• safety practices relating to the handling, storage, and use of chemical cleaning products and custodial equipment
• Cleaning, sanitation, and health standards

Ability to

• operate common and specialized cleaning equipment and tools
• Understand and carries out both written and oral instructions
• perform heavy physical labor including lifting, pulling, pushing, and working off ladders
• use hand and small power tools to accomplish minor repairs and adjustments
• maintain work schedules in the performance of cleaning tasks
• adhere to safety standards and safe practices, especially in the handling and use of chemicals and procedures for pathogens
• maintain cooperative and productive working relationships through the use of courtesy and tact when dealing with others
• retain a valid license to operate any school equipment e certifiable in federal and state-mandated safety laws if required
• Maintains security and safety of the building as instructed by the supervisor.
• Guards against the waste of fuel, water, electricity, and supplies.
• Performs other duties as the supervisor assigns.

Mental and Physical Demands

• Will be required to stand for prolonged periods.
• May be required to move heavy objects such as furniture or equipment.
• Will be required to operate power equipment such as scrubbers, mowers, and tractors.
• May need to take precautions to avoid exposure to cleaning and stripping compounds and fumes.
• May need to take precautions to avoid student bodily fluids.
• May be exposed to noise from power equipment.
• may be required periodically to work outdoors in inclement weather.
• Must be able to shovel heavy snow.
• May be required to be on call to return to work off hours for emergencies.

Position Type: Part-time

Salary: $22.07 to $22.07 Per Hour
