Job summary

Dudley-Charlton Regional School District is seeking a 2nd Shift Custodian at Shepherd Hill Reg High in Dudley, MA. Immediate start, pay $22–$28 per hour, full-time, with responsibilities including cleaning classrooms, offices, cafeteria and other areas, basic repairs, and ensuring a safe, orderly environment.

The role requires physical ability, experience with cleaning tasks, and the ability to operate small machinery. A CDL or willingness to obtain one is preferred.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Maintain a courteous attitude toward pupils, staff and the public.
• Be responsible for the general condition of the building and grounds.
• Keep assigned areas clean and orderly.
• Sweep, wash, mop, strip and wax floors as instructed.
• Wash windows and other surfaces.
• Clean lavatories and replace supplies.
• Disinfect areas, change bulbs, unclog drains, clean air filters, collect trash, and use cleaning equipment.
• Move furniture and equipment as needed.
• Unload trucks and deliver materials.
• Perform minor repairs to furniture and equipment.
• Shovel snow and keep walks clear.
• Maintain grounds in a clean, safe condition.
• Report conditions needing repair.
• Maintain security and safety of the building.
• Guard against waste of fuel, water, electricity and supplies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Classification: Support Staff Wage and Benefit Schedule A
Essential Functions: Perform various manual tasks to maintain school buildings and grounds in a clean and orderly condition, working from established procedures under the direction of the Head Custodian/Maintenance Supervisor.
Qualifications:
1.Possesses a high school education or the equivalent.
2.Passes a physical examination.
3.Able to make minor repairs.
4.Has the ability to make judgments to comply with instructions and prescribed procedures and to make minor decisions in the performance of duties.
5.Able to operate small machinery.
6.Possesses a general knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems.
7.Possesses a commercial driver’s license, or is willing to obtain one.
8.Possesses the ability to maintain congenial, positive and productive working relationships with students, staff and the public.
9.Possesses basic computer skills.
Responsibilities:

3.Maintains assigned areas including classrooms, offices, cafeteria and any other areas in school under the control of the district in a clean and orderly condition.

5.Washes windows, walls, light fixtures, furniture and other equipment as needed.
6.Cleans lavatories/urinals; and replace supplies, paper goods, soap and so forth.
7.Performs other duties that include but are not limited to the following: disinfecting specified areas, changing bulbs or lamps, unclogging drains, cleaning or replacing air filters, collecting trash, using equipment and materials including but not limited to brooms, mops, scrubbers, water, vacuum, polisher, brushes, dusters, soaps, polishes, wax stripper, drain openers, bowl cleaners and disinfectants.
8.Moves furniture and other equipment as necessary.
9.Unloads trucks, deliver materials to proper destination.
10.Perform minor repairs to furniture, equipment, and building.
11.Shovels snow and keep walks and steps clear of snow and ice.
12.Maintains immediate grounds in a clean, orderly, and safe condition.
13.Reports promptly any conditions that need to be remedied or repaired.
14.Maintains security and safety of building as instructed by supervisor.
15.Guards against waste of fuel, water, electricity and supplies.
16.Performs other duties as the supervisor assigns.
Mental and Physical Demands:
1. Will be required to stand for prolonged periods of time.
2. May be required to move heavy objects such as furniture or equipment.
3. Will be required to operate power equipment such as scrubbers, mowers, and tractors.
4. May need to take precautions to avoid exposure to cleaning and stripping compounds and fumes.
5. May need to take precautions to avoid student bodily fluids.
6. May be exposed to noise from power equipment.
7. may be required periodically to work outdoors in inclement weather.
8. Must be able to shovel heavy snow.
9. May be required to be on call to return to work off hours for emergencies. Position Type: Full-time
