    • A basic knowledge of modern cleaning methods and materials used in the care and maintenance of school buildings.

    • A good work record and experience in building maintenance work.

    • Able to work a flexible schedule (additional afternoon hours if covering district custodians)

  • Clean all glass surfaces and windows in interior of building

  • Wash walls, furniture, toilet fixtures, partitions and other equipment.

  • Replace lavatory supplies.

  • Replace burned out light bulbs, dispose of waste paper and rubbish.

  • Assists in the kitchen with lifting and cleanup.

  • Distributes supplies to teachers.

  • Sets up and cleans areas before and after school activities.

  • Performs related duties as assigned by the head custodian or shift supervisor.

  • Sweeps sidewalk areas, picks up debris from the grounds, shovels snow, and sands sidewalks as required.

  • Prune, fertilize and replant bushes and shrubs as needed.

  • Weeds flower and shrub beds and rakes leaves.

  • Oils motors, checks equipment, paints walls and partitions both inside and outside the building.

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

  • Sees that the vehicle is gassed, clean, and in good mechanical order.

  • Completes The Daily Vehicle Inspection Report in accordance with Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicle Regulations.

  • Sees to the vehicle’s inspection by Connecticut Motor Vehicle Department inspectors or necessary repairs as directed by the Business Office.

  • Substitutes regular in-district delivery of mail and other related items.

  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally

  • Able to work outdoors year round in all weather conditions as essential personnel

  • Able to stand, crouch, bend and climb ladders

  • Able to push heavy objects, including, but not limited to, carts and equipment

  • Able to perform various types of manual labor

    Position hours are 2pm-10pm, Monday-Friday for an estimated four (4) weeks

    Salary: $25.00 per hour
    Work Schedule: 40 hours per week

    STARTING DATE: May14, 2025 for an estimated 6-8 weeks

    General Description: The Custodian performs general building maintenance duties within and adjacent to assigned school buildings. This includes cleaning, servicing, and maintaining all areas within a school building as well as providing minor maintenance and upkeep of adjacent grounds, mechanical and electrical equipment. Custodian will have a schedule for FHS cafeteria duties, as well as other related FHS duties. Custodian will be available on short notice for substitute duties for pick up and delivery of mail and other items within the district (no more than 50 pounds) or for district school custodians. The Custodian must have a clean driving record, complete required pre-employment testing and will be subject to random drug testing during employment. Work assignments are provided by the Director of Facilities and/or designee.


    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Within the Building
