Position: Substitute Custodian (1^st and 2^nd Shifts available)

Location: MSAD 11 (Location to be determined as needed)

Date Position Available: 2024-2025 School Year

Qualifications: Current CHRC authorization through State of Maine Department of Education. Experience as a custodian, janitor or similar role is preferred.

Description: MSAD #11 is looking for a responsible substitute custodian to help maintain and protect our facilities. The external and internal appearance of a building reflects on the occupants. It is important for a custodian, or janitor, to be careful and thorough in working, cleaning, and tidying the premises, as well as preventing vandalism. The ideal candidate will be experienced in a custodian role focused on building upkeep. They will have great physical endurance to cover a large space. A keen eye for detail and diligence are imperative in custodial maintenance jobs.

Responsibilities:

1. Ensure spaces are prepared for the next day by taking out trash, tidying furniture, and dusting surfaces.
2. Sweep and mop floors and vacuum carpets.
3. Wash and sanitize toilets, sinks and showers, and restock disposables (e.g. soap).
4. Wipe mirrors and windows.
5. Maintain outer premises by watering plants, mowing lawns, and cleaning entrances.
6. Utilize insecticides to prevent infestation by dangerous pests.
7. Perform maintenance and minor repairs (replacing broken switches, fixing door handles, minor leaks, etc.).
8. Report major damages and oversee repairs.
9. Secure facilities after operating hours by locking doors, closing windows, and setting up the alarm.
10. Undertake occasional custodial and janitorial tasks (shoveling snow from sidewalks, lifting heavy items, moving chairs, etc.).

Compensation: $17.48 per hour. This is a substitute position. This position does not provide benefits.
