Job Description: Custodian

Definition

Under general supervision, to follow a schedule in the performance of custodial duties required to maintain assigned rooms, equipment, buildings and adjacent areas in a clean, orderly and secure manner; and to perform all related duties as assigned.

Performance Responsibilities

• Work from a prepared work schedule, sweep, scrub, wax, polish concrete, tile, and wood floors in various school areas.
• Clean and dust walls, furniture, woodwork, and other equipment.
• Vacuum and clean rugs and carpets.
• Pick up paper and other refuse on grounds and sweep walks and entrances.
• Wash, scrub, and disinfect restrooms.
• Clean windows, door glass, and drinking fountains.
• Clean and polish metal work such as door panels and hand railings.
• Empties and cleans waste containers.
• Assist in moving or rearranging furniture and equipment.
• Replace light globes.
• Make minor repairs or adjustments to furniture.
• Operate and maintain cleaning equipment.
• Participate in major cleaning during vacation periods.
• Report safety, sanitary, and fire hazards.

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge of: Modern cleaning materials, methods, equipment, tools, safety regulations.

Ability to: Work independently, cooperate with others, lift objects weighing approximately 50 lbs, follow instructions.

Experience: 1 year in janitorial or maintenance work.

Education: High School Diploma or G.E.D.

License: Valid California driver’s license.

Clearance: Fingerprint and TB clearance required prior to employment.
