Job summary

West Virginia Department of Education is seeking a Bus Operator/Substitute Bus Operator to support student transportation across Tucker County and multiple locations. You will operate school buses along assigned routes and assist students with boarding and safety protocols.

Requirements include a High School Diploma or equivalent, the ability to pass the WV Classification Test for Specific Area, a background check, CPR/First Aid certification, and a CDL or willingness to obtain one.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Safely operate school buses picking up and dropping off students along set bus routes according to traffic laws and company policies.
• Ensure the safety of all passengers by following proper behavior management techniques and maintaining a vigilant driving style.
• Maintain a clean bus and encourage students to respect and promote positive behaviors.
• Communicate effectively with students, parents, school staff, and colleagues to provide clear instructions and updates.
• Assist children with boarding and disembarking, ensuring proper use of child safety seats or restraints when necessary.
• Maintain accurate logs of routes, passenger counts, incidents, and vehicle maintenance reports.
• Respond promptly to emergencies or incidents on the road by coordinating with emergency responders and reporting as required.

SALARY:

WV Salary Scale for Substitute Service Personnel Salary based on experience and education level per CBOE salary schedule plus competitive benefits package equal to approximately 35% of direct compensation.
