The Substitute Bus Driver will provide safe and efficient transportation for students to and from school. Great position for someone to stay active in the community or for parents who want to be on their children's school schedule.

Responsibilities
  • Fuel and check the oil in buses daily, keep buses clean inside, and clean buses before and after field trips.
  • Warm up buses at least ten minutes prior to driving.
  • Pre-trip buses at the beginning of each run; complete and file pre-trip reports online using provided tablets.
  • Maintain order and discipline on the bus, handle noise and distractions, and discipline fairly within school guidelines.
  • Ensure all passengers are students or designated trip supervisors; prohibit other passengers per state law and insurance regulations.
  • Post-trip, check for left items, damage, and ensure windows are closed.
  • Ensure all passengers are off the bus at day's end.
  • Use bus radios properly for school business only.
  • Maintain all required records as per law and district policy.
  • Be able to evacuate students in emergencies; participate in emergency procedures three times per year.
  • Demonstrate ability to open, exit, and enter through the emergency door.
  • Report staff and student injuries immediately; follow up with written reports.
  • Report needed repairs or safety hazards; submit accident reports promptly.
  • Attend mandatory meetings called by the Director of Transportation, paid at regular rate.
Qualifications
  • Annual DOT/Michigan Department of Education physical at approved clinics.
  • Renew CDL license before expiration, with B, P, S, and air brakes endorsements.
  • Pass drug tests as required by law.
  • Maintain a good driving record.
  • Complete required school bus driver training and advanced classes.
Schedule

As needed, following the student calendar; summers and school breaks off.

Flexible schedule.

Compensation

$19.27 per hour

Paid CDL training included.
