Job summary

Gasconade Co School District R2 in Owensville, Missouri seeks a Substitute Bus Driver to transport students safely to and from school and related activities. The role requires vigilance, clear communication, and the ability to respond to changing schedules.

The position demands a High School diploma or GED, a current CDL and School Bus Permit, and completing the DESE drivers course while employed. Collaboration with district staff is essential to ensure ongoing student safety and route

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.

Responsibilities

• Transport students safely to and from school.
• Manage student behavior on the bus.
• Conduct pre-trip inspections and log results.
• Maintain route data per district regulations.
• Maintain confidentiality of student records.
• Report mechanical problems to district mechanic.
• Attend in-services as available.
• Communicate positively with parents, students, and administration.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by Transportation Supervisor.

• Requires 0 to 2 years of job related prior experience.
• Successful completion of the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education drivers course required while employed in this position; i.e. retraining, refresher, recertification.
• Current CDL and School Bus Permit required
• Experience working with special education and high needs students preferred.

REPORTS TO: Transportation Director

JOB GOAL: Transport students to and from school in a safe manner and related functions. Inspect and maintains the school bus to ensure proper operating condition.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Transport students of all ages to and from school and extra-curricular activities in a safe and timely manner.
• Manage student behavior and maintain discipline on the bus.
• Conduct and log pre-trip inspections to check for cleanliness, safety, proper mechanical functions and adequate fuel levels.
• Maintain and track route data as mandated by school and state regulations.
• Maintain the confidentiality of students discipline and medical records.
• Report mechanical problems to district mechanic.
• Attend in-services as available.
• Demonstrate the ability to communicate positively and constructively to parents, students administration and others.
• Other duties and responsibilities assigned by Transportation Supervisor and district administration.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: As needed/called by the district.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND VISUAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk and sit. Additionally, the employee may occasionally be required to push or lift up to 50 lbs. as necessary for the safety and well-being of others.
