Job summary

Lake Shore Central School District Transportation Department - Angola, New York is seeking a Substitute Bus Attendant to support student safety and orderly conduct on daily routes. You will assist the driver with loading and unloading, supervise students, help with crossing techniques, and communicate with classroom staff and parents as appropriate.

A High School/Trade School degree is preferred and citizenship or work eligibility is required.

Responsibilities

• Able to relate to children of different ages and those with special needs.
• Communicate bus rules, maintain orderly behavior and assist students on the bus.
• Assist driver in loading/unloading and teach crossing techniques with the driver.
• Physically assist children on and off the bus as needed.
• Ensure students requiring specialized equipment are secured during transport.
• Establish cooperative working relationships with others.
• Communicate with classroom aides, teachers, principals and parents as appropriate.
• Maintain knowledge of Emergency Evacuation procedures.
• Assist driver in pre-trip and post-trip inspections and check for sleeping students.

Job Description

• Able to relate to children of differing ages or cognitive level as well as with students with special needs.
• Communicate school bus ridership rules and maintain orderly behavior and assist students while on the bus.
• Assist driver in safe loading and unloading of students; training students in proper crossing techniques in cooperation with the driver.
• Physically assist children on and off the bus as necessary.
• Ensure all students who require specialized securement are properly secured in a 5-point harness, safety vest, or appropriate mobility device during transport.
• Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
• Be willing to communicate with classroom aides, teachers, principals, and parents concerning student behavior as appropriate.
• Maintain current knowledge of Emergency Evacuation procedures.
• Able to assist driver in thorough pre-trip, post-trip inspection, checking the bus for items left behind and sleeping students.
