Qualifications

  • Has the ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
  • Has previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport (Major sports).
  • The head coach must have substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and must continue to examine new theories and procedures relevant to the field.
  • The head coach must serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through his/her instructions and actions.

REPORTS TO: The athletic director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the high school principals.

SUPERVISES: The head coach must advise, coordinate, and support a staff of high school assistant coaches and middle school coaches in conjunction with the athletic director and respective principal.

JOB GOAL: To instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for individual and team success, while promoting socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment. The coach should also seek to upgrade knowledge and skills through clinics, observations, and consultation.

GENERAL: The athletic program's success influences community image. Responsibilities include promoting good sportsmanship and mental health, managing extended hours and injury risks, and exercising good judgment in unforeseen situations.

Duties and Responsibilities include implementing athletic policies, understanding regulations, and referring requests or grievances through proper channels.

Staff Responsibilities include establishing coaching philosophy, training staff, delegating duties, maintaining discipline, and evaluating staff effectiveness.

Administrative Duties involve scheduling, transportation, documentation, equipment management, and policy recommendations.

Student Responsibilities encompass mentoring, monitoring grades and conduct, managing injuries, and guiding college or educational planning.

Finance and Equipment responsibilities include budgeting, equipment management, inventory, and maintaining proper use and security of facilities and equipment.

Public Relations involve organizing meetings, promoting sports, managing media communications, and maintaining community relations.
