Position Title: Assistant Teacher Substitute
Location: Archway Trivium Academy, 2001 N Bullard Ave, Goodyear, AZ
Reports To: Headmaster
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Hourly
Duties and Responsibilities
- Read, know, and support the philosophy, policies, procedures and other pertinent data of the school as published in the Faculty Handbook and the most current Family Handbook.
- Work with the classroom and Lead teachers where assigned, understanding that support duties will often occur in other classrooms.
- Give all reasonable assistance to those students in need of individual help and assists students to make‑up work after approved absences and support students who find content and lessons challenging.
- Share ideas and insights with the classroom teacher and grade level staff that support improvement and learning.
- Support and enforce the school dress and behavior codes and makes reasonable efforts to promote the orderly behavior of all students in the school, on the grounds, and at off‑campus activities.
- Keep accurate records and makes reports as required by the classroom teacher and the Headmaster.
- Attend Open Houses, special school events (such as concerts, plays and special presentations) and certain staff meetings designated as All Faculty Meetings as needed.
- Assist, when necessary, in substituting for absent teachers.
- Accept and faithfully executes monitoring and duty assignments.
- Participate in faculty development on half‑days.
- Assist in the upkeep of the buildings and grounds as requested by the Headmaster.
- Keep the workplace and classrooms neat and orderly.
- Exercises care in the use of school equipment.
- Follow school policies and procedures, including the Academy Crisis Plan, for ensuring the safety and security of students on campus.
- May need to participate in regular annual performance evaluations with the classroom teacher and Headmaster and accepts advice and recommendations for improvement of instruction.
- Is an active member of the community of learners, and continues his or her own professional growth and development by taking graduate courses and/or attending seminars and workshops related to the profession.
- Pursues excellence in teaching and continues to develop personal knowledge of the great ideas and works of Western Civilization.
- Promote to the greater community the mission and goals of Archway Classical Academy.
- May need to attend all Great Hearts professional development opportunities, including New Faculty Orientation and The Summit.
Required/Preferred Education
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Some college coursework and/or Associate's degree required.
Other Requirements
- Must be able to maintain a stationary (standing or sitting) position for 25% of the time.
- May occasionally move around the classroom, position self to be level with student desks and com US work authorization isrequired, but we do accept OPT/CPT candidates.
- Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal history background check and fingerprint clearance in accordance with state requirements.
- Travel required: May need to travel locally for training and professional development opportunities.
