Job summary

Mid-Cumberland Community Action Agency is seeking a Substitute to support day-to-day operations at a Head Start center in classrooms, food service, and family services.

Key duties include planning daily lessons, parent communication, meal preparation and cleanup, and assisting with meetings and trainings, with opportunities to recruit children for the Head Start programs. Previous experience with young children is preferred.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or GED; CDA credential preferred.
• Experience with children ages 0-5 is required.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning daily lessons and activities; take on major classroom responsibilities as needed.
• Keep parents informed through conferences, letters, newsletters, notes, and calls.
• Assist with preparation and cleanup of meals; eat meals with the children.
• Assist in cleaning duties in the classroom and center.
• Provide food service assistance in the absence of the Food Service Technician.
• Assist with parent meetings or trainings.
• Recruit children for Head Start and Early Head Start programs.
• Attend meetings and trainings; participate in committees and workshops.
• Work to obtain volunteer and in-kind contributions; submit documents to Finance.
• Comply with Head Start standards and agency policies; perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Summary:

A Substitute assists in the day-to-day operation of a Head Start center in various capacities, including but not limited to classroom, food service, or family service assistance.

Specific Job Duties:

• Assist in planning daily lessons and activities. Assume major classroom responsibilities as requested and as expertise is gained.
• Keep parents informed through conferences, letters, newsletters, anecdotal notes, and telephone calls.
• Assist with preparation and cleanup of all meals; eat meals with the children.
• Assist in all cleaning duties of both the classroom and the center as requested or required.
• Provide food service assistance in the absence of the Food Service Technician.
• Assist with parent meetings or trainings.
• Recruit children for the Head Start and Early Head Start Programs.
• Attend and participate in meetings, team meetings, committees, workshops, individual training, and conferences as assigned. This includes local, state, regional, and national groups, as well as pre-service and in-service training.
• Work to obtain volunteer and in-kind contributions for the Agency and submit necessary documents to the Finance Department.
• Comply with all Head Start Performance Standards, Mid-Cumberland Community Action Agency and Mid-Cumberland Head Start Policies and Procedures, and other applicable Early Childhood Standards such as DHS Licensing Standards and NAEYC Accreditation Standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

Education and Experience Qualifications:

Education: Minimum of a high school diploma or GED; CDA credential preferred.

Experience: Previous work with children ages 0-5.
