Job summary

Mid-Cumberland Community Action Agency in Erin, TN seeks a Substitute to assist in day-to-day operation of a Head Start center, across classroom, food service, and family service roles. You will support lesson planning, communicate with parents, help with meals and cleanup, and participate in staff trainings and meetings to promote children’s development and well-being.

Minimum education is high school diploma or GED; CDA preferred. Experience with children aged 0-5 is required.

Mission Statement:

Summary:
A Substitute assists in the day-to-day operation of a Head Start center in various capacities, including but not limited to classroom, food service, or family service assistance.

Specific Job Duties:

• Assist in planning daily lessons and activities. Assume major classroom responsibilities as requested and as expertise is gained.
• Keep parents informed through conferences, letters, newsletters, anecdotal notes, and telephone calls.
• Assist with preparation and cleanup of all meals; eat meals with the children.
• Assist in all cleaning duties of both the classroom and the center as requested or required.
• Provide food service assistance in the absence of the Food Service Technician.
• Assist with parent meetings or trainings.
• Recruit children for the Head Start and Early Head Start Programs.
• Attend and participate in meetings, team meetings, committees, workshops, individual training, and conferences as assigned. This includes local, state, regional, and national groups, as well as pre-service and in-service training.
• Work to obtain volunteer and in-kind contributions for the Agency and submit necessary documents to the Finance Department.
• Comply with all Head Start Performance Standards, Mid-Cumberland Community Action Agency and Mid-Cumberland Head Start Policies and Procedures, and other applicable Early Childhood Standards such as DHS Licensing Standards and NAEYC Accreditation Standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

Education and Experience Qualifications:

Education: Minimum of a high school diploma or GED; CDA credential preferred.
Experience: Previous work with children ages 0-5.
