Job summary

HDR is seeking a Substation Technical Specialist to support the Power sector with design and engineering tasks for substations. You will produce design drawings, calculations and contract documents under licensed engineers, coordinating with related disciplines to ensure high-quality deliverables.

The role requires a degree or equivalent experience, at least five years in the discipline, and strong communication skills. HDR emphasizes employee ownership and inclusive culture across locations.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in engineering or related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of engineering experience in the discipline to be supported.
  • Aptitude and demonstrated hands-on experience with computer applications specific to the discipline to be supported.
  • Knowledge of industry standards specific to the discipline being supported.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.

Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering assignments under the direct supervision of a licensed engineer.
  • Design tasks involving judgment in evaluating, selecting and applying engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Production of design drawings and construction documents through the use of computer aided design and other software.
  • Preparation of design or quantity calculations.
  • Preparation of specifications and contract documents.
  • Coordination with other disciplines as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervising engineer.
