Job summary

Ulteig Engineers, Inc. seeks a Substation Training and Quality Engineer to lead training and improve quality for the Substation Engineering department. The role ensures the team has the proper training, processes, and tools to excel and advance their careers at Ulteig.

You will develop and maintain training curricula, participate in quality enablement, and collaborate with leadership on training needs and process improvements to drive continuous improvement across projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering required.
• 7+ years of substation structural design experience expected.
• PE license required for the role.
• Technical expertise in substation structural engineering.
• Interest in mentoring others and enabling growth.
• Ability to work across teams and communicate effectively.
• Open to innovation, including AI tools, to improve workflows.
• Permanent US work authorization required.

Responsibilities

• Provide QC, quality audits, and project mentoring on substation projects.

• Own and refine substation-specific quality processes, checklists, and tools.

• Coordinate lunch and learn opportunities.

• Balance 60% billable QC/audit work with 40% training/quality initiatives.

The Opportunity

Ulteig is currently seeking a highly organized and engaged Substation Training and Quality Engineer to lead training efforts and implement quality improvements for the Substation Engineering department. The Substation Training & Quality Engineer is responsible for providing development, oversight, and maintenance of the substation training program. They are also responsible for supporting the development and maintenance of processes and best practices around quality. This role is ultimately intended to ensure our team has the proper training, process, and tools to excel in their roles and advance their careers here at Ulteig.

What You’ll Do

• Provide QC, quality audits, and project mentoring on substation projects.
• Submit Quality Reports as part of QC.
• Review Quality Escapes and identify root causes for quality errors.
• Participate on the Substation Quality Enablement Team to own, develop, and refine Substation-specific quality processes, checklists, tools, and guidance.
• Communicate department-wide training and quality initiatives.
• Collaborate with department leadership on training needs and quality process related improvements.
• Create and maintain training curriculum within Ulteig University.
• Engage in the lessons learned process and identify suggested updates to quality checklists as appropriate.
• Coordinate and schedule lunch and learn opportunities.
• Seek opportunities to assist clients with technical training.
• Assess industry trends and new technologies.
• It is anticipated that 60% of the time will be spent on billable projects, including QC and quality audits, with 40% of the time committed to training and quality initiatives.

What We Expect from You

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering
• 7+ years of substation structural design experience
• PE License is required
• Technical expertise, preferably subject matter expertise, in substation Structural Engineering.
• Eagerness and desire to support growth in others
• Ability to work collaboratively across teams
• Excellent organization and communication skills
• Demonstrates openness to innovation by embracing and applying evolving technology, including AI tools, to enhance workflows, solve problems, and drive continuous improvement
• Must have permanent work authorization to work in the US

Additional Opportunity Details:

Target Base Compensation Range for this role is $123,200 - $159,650

* Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your job specific skills, education, training, job location, number of years of experience related to this role and comparison to other employees already in this role
