Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Civil/Structural Engineering with emphasis in Structural Eng.
  • 4+ years of structural design engineering on substations in Power/Industrial.
  • Proficient with SAP2000, STAAD, RISA3D, PLS-POLE, PLS-TOWER, LPILE, FAD Tools and Mathcad.
  • Know ASCE 7, 10, 48, 74, 113, ACI 318, 336, AISC 325, 348, 360, IBC.
  • Georgia PE license or ability to obtain within one year (preferred).

Overview

Kimley-Horn's Woodstock, Georgia (GA) office is seeking an experienced Structural Substation Engineer to join our Power Delivery team. This role will focus on the design and analysis of substation structures and foundation systems, preparation of structural drawings and calculation packages, and coordination with internal teams, clients, vendors, fabricators, and construction partners. The ideal candidate will bring strong structural engineering experience in the power or industrial market, working knowledge of applicable codes and standards, and the ability to apply engineering software to deliver practical, constructible solutions for substation projects. This is not a remote position.



Responsibilities


  • Design and analyze new and existingsubstationstructures and foundation systems.

  • Prepare and review structural drawing and calculation packages.

  • Apply and review department and industry standards when preparing calculations, project drawings, and project specifications for procurement and construction.

  • Incorporate the requirements of the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract, customer Requests for Proposals (RFPs), professional service agreements, or other contractual requirements ensuring the projects meet or exceed project goals.

  • Identify and propose value engineering or best installed cost options for projects and process improvement opportunities.

  • Coordinate with internal and external partners including cross-discipline, construction, vendors, fabricator(s), and owners to address structural-related issues or concerns including constructability reviews and construction RFIs.

  • Support substation team in achieving performance goals with the power delivery group.

  • Apply engineering application software to complete engineering tasks such as foundation and steel structure design.



Qualifications


  • BS or MS degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related engineering discipline with an emphasis in Structural Engineering.

  • 4+ years’ experience in Structural design engineering on substations in the Power/Industrial Industry

  • Proficiency or working knowledge of structural engineering software such as SAP2000, STAAD, RISA3D, PLS-POLE, PLS-TOWER, LPILE, FAD Tools, and Mathcad; experience applying these tools to substation steel structure and foundation design preferred.

  • General knowledge of engineering standards including ASCE 7, 10, 48, 74, 113, ACI 318, 336, AISC 325, 348, 360, and IBC.

  • Licensed PE in Georgia, or ability to obtain within one year of employment, desired.#LI-AT1
