Job summary

Kimley-Horn's Fort Worth, Texas office is seeking a Substation Physical Engineer with 4+ years of experience to join our Power Delivery team. This is not a remote position.

The role focuses on HV/MV substation physical design, engineering studies, and leading project efforts while mentoring junior engineers and coordinating with clients to meet project objectives.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience in Substation Physical Design.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or ability to obtain within 12 months.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and CDEGS.

Responsibilities

  • Perform conceptual and detailed HV and MV substation physical/electrical design.
  • Perform engineering studies and calculations.
  • Lead QC reviews on substation physical design projects.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
  • Develop proposals and scopes of work for substation projects.
  • Plan and lead client meetings related to physical design.

Job description

Kimley-Horn's Fort Worth, Texas (TX) office is seeking a Substation Physical Engineer with 4+ years of experience to join their Power Delivery team! This is not a remote position.

Responsibilities
  • Perform conceptual and detailed HV and MV Substation Physical/Electrical design for utilities/substations (including basic layout, electrical arrangement, one line, three-line drawings, plan-section, grounding, AC and DC system drawings)
  • Perform engineering studies and calculations
  • Perform Quality Control reviews on substation physical design projects
  • Assume the role of technical lead on projects with limited guidance
  • Create and review bill of materials for substation physical projects
  • Develop and review proposals, and scopes of work for smaller substation physical projects
  • Plan and lead client meetings (or meeting sections) relating to physical design, as required
  • Provide support for continued professional development of less experienced engineers in team, including technical guidance, and recommending training needs to the group
  • Possess excellent communication skills and the ability to interact with the internal teams and clients to meet project objectives
  • Develop leadership skills in preparation for future roles on the team
Qualifications
  • 4+ years of relevant engineering experience in Substation Physical Design
  • Professional Engineering (P.E.) License (or ability to obtain within 12 months)
  • Enjoys working in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects
  • Proficiency in using industry-standard design software such as AutoCAD
  • Experience with grounding studies/lightning protection and lighting studies
  • Experience with bus calculation
  • Experience with CDEGS
