Job summary

Coalesce Management Consulting invites applications for a Substation Relay Engineer responsible for the design, development, and modification of high-voltage substations that support transmission and distribution systems.

You will create physical layouts, electrical arrangements, and construction packages, coordinating with protection & control, civil/structural, and field teams to meet safety and industry standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Experience in substation physical design within the electric utility, consulting, or EPC industry.
  • Knowledge of high-voltage substation equipment including transformers, breakers, disconnect switches, bus systems, CTs, PTs, and relay panels.
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as IEEE, NESC, NEC, and ANSI.
  • Proficiency with engineering tools such as: AutoCAD, MicroStation, Bentley Substation
  • Ability to interpret technical specifications, schematics, and construction drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Develop design packages for substations ranging from distribution voltage levels through extra-high voltage systems.
  • Prepare and review: General arrangement drawings, Plan and elevation views, Grounding layouts, Conduit and cable trench designs, Control building layouts, Structural details and equipment foundations.
  • Perform equipment spacing and electrical clearance calculations in accordance with applicable standards and codes.
  • Coordinate with protection & control engineers, civil/structural teams, transmission line engineers, and construction personnel.
  • Support material procurement by preparing bills of materials and equipment specifications.
  • Review vendor drawings and ensure integration with project requirements.
  • Ensure designs comply with utility standards, environmental requirements, and safety regulations including NESC, IEEE, and applicable regional reliability requirements.

Job description

The Substation Relay Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and modification of high-voltage electrical substations that support transmission and distribution systems. This role involves creating physical layouts, electrical arrangements, and construction packages for new substations and upgrades to existing facilities while ensuring compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and utility practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop design packages for substations ranging from distribution voltage levels through extra-high voltage systems.

  • Experience supporting construction, commissioning, or field engineering activities.
