Job summary

ISG is seeking a Senior Substation Relay and Controls Engineer in Brookfield, WI to lead design and delivery of protection and control systems for high-voltage substations, supporting FirstEnergy. You will develop one-line and three-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, BOMs, and equipment lists, while mentoring junior staff and addressing complex engineering challenges.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
• 8+ years of consulting or substation engineering and design experience.
• Ohio PE License preferred. May be working towards certification.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel for site visits, design reviews, and client meetings.

Responsibilities

• Ensure accurate and compliant designs for high voltage substations (diagrams, schematics, wiring, panel layouts, BOMs).
• Research, understand, assist, and order materials needed for each design.
• Verify adherence to client, utility, and regulatory standards (IEEE, NESC).
• Address complex technical challenges and optimize schemes or troubleshoot issues.
• Support project schedules to meet milestones and deliverables.
• Collaborate with substation physical, civil, and structural teams and external stakeholders.
• Review and approve drawings, calculations, and technical reports.
• Mentor junior engineers and designers, providing feedback.
• Conduct training sessions and share best practices.
• Foster a collaborative and positive work environment.
• Serve as main technical point of contact for clients.
• Deliver high-quality designs meeting client expectations and industry standards.
• Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency.
• Stay current with industry advancements and technologies.
