Job summary

ENERCON Services, Inc. is seeking a Substation Drafter Designer – Protection & Controls to join our Power Delivery group. This role offers options in multiple U.S. locations including Orlando, FL, with the potential to work remotely.

You will design substation protection drawings, perform basic calculations, and collaborate with engineers to deliver compliant, on-time electrical designs. Field support during construction may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1+ year experience in substation drafting/design, focus on protection and control projects.
• Familiarity with relay protection schemes.
• Experience with MicroStation and AutoCAD.
• Willingness to enter energized substations with PPE.

Responsibilities

• Substation design and drafting of drawings, schematics, control panel layouts, and building layouts.
• Perform basic substation design calculations such as voltage drop and conduit fill.

Due to continued growth, our Power Delivery group is seeking a Substation Drafter Designer – Protection & Controls in one of the following office locations:

This position may be filled as a Drafter or Designer. Job title and job level will be determined based upon candidate’s qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities

Imagine a day where you’re designing the backbone of the power grid—drafting and designing substation protection drawings that keep energy flowing safely. You collaborate with engineers across disciplines, solve real-world challenges, and see your designs come to life in the field. Every detail you contribute will help power entire communities—safely, reliably, and sustainably.

• Substation Design & Drafting: Develop electric substation drawings, including schematics, wiring diagrams, control panel layouts, and control building layouts.
• Engineering Analysis & Calculations: Perform basic substation design calculations and analysis such as voltage drop and conduit fill.
• Collaboration & Quality Assurance: Work closely with peers to ensure accurate and on-time delivery of electrical design that meets client and industry standards, specifications, and good engineering practices.
• Field Support: Providing on-site technical support for select ENERCON clients during construction and commissioning as required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in Substation drafting or designing, with a primary focus on executing protection and control projects
• Familiarity with relay protection schemes
• Experience with MicroStation and AutoCAD
• Willingness to enter energized electric substations with proper training and PPE
• Must be self-driven in time management to meet deadlines and provide accurate deliverables, with the ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders
• Must be proficient with typical office software including Microsoft Windows and Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Willingness to travel for client site visits and project meetings

Preferred Qualifications

• Three or more years of experience in Substation drafting or designing, with a primary focus on executing protection and control projects
• Experience working in electric utility industry, preferably in fast-paced consulting environment
• 500kV substation design experience

Compensation Range

USD $54,400.00 - USD $90,000.00 /Yr.
