Project Engineer will perform conceptual, preliminary, and final detailed design of new, upgraded, and expanded substations, including material procurement, construction and commissioning/startup support through energization. Duties include the development and delivery of physical, electrical, civil and communication design studies, calculations, drawings, exhibits and specifications. The Project Engineer assists the Project Manager in planning and executing best-in-class projects, coordinating client and stakeholder engagement, training and mentoring design staff, ensuring project quality, and overseeing design engineers, designers, drafters and support staff. The role also coordinates completion of specialized tasks with ECI's subject matter expert discipline groups such as Distribution Studies, Transmission Studies, Grounding Studies, Protection (relay coordination and settings), Civil Engineering, Communication (SCADA Integration), Transmission & Distribution Engineering, Environmental Planning, Surveying, Lands/Right-of-Way, and Project Management/Controls.
Bachelor of Science or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, 6+ years of project and design engineering experience or an acceptable combination of education and experience; excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong organization and planning skills; ability to work in a team environment; commitment to quality and accuracy; and a willingness to meet fast-paced project schedules. A PE license is preferred.
Applicants must have advanced knowledge of power engineering principals, be expert regarding applicable codes, standards and design tools, possess basic project management execution skills, and be able to oversee and direct design personnel on a project team. Experience in utility or merchant power industry is a plus. The successful applicant may be subject to client-mandated drug and background checking. Occasional travel/driving is required; therefore, the successful applicant will be subject to ECI's auto insurance carrier requirements.
