Job summary

WSP is seeking a Substation Physical Designer in Columbus, OH. You will provide local technical design and CAD support for substation projects, generating detailed drawings, layouts, and documentation for planning, transportation, and technical services.

Responsibilities include drafting, 3D CAD modeling with AutoCAD/MicroStation/Inventor, checking compliance with client standards, and collaborating with engineers and cross‑functional teams to deliver accurate design deliverables.

Qualifications

High School Diploma required.
5+ years of post-education drafting/design experience.
Experience with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, MicroStation and Inventor.
3D parametric modeling experience with Inventor or SolidWorks.
Strong drafting principles, codes, and record-keeping familiarity.
Good communication and teamwork skills, professional at all levels.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Occasional travel may be required.

Responsibilities

Collect and analyze data from sites, surveys, plans, and drawings to support drafting.
Draft substation projects, including physical and civil layouts and electrical schematics.
Create 3D substation drawings and equipment layouts using CAD tools.
Verify calculations and resolve design issues; work with engineers and cross‑functional teams.
Ensure plans meet client standards, project requirements, and regulations.
Prepare multiple design versions for review by engineers.
Adhere to design standards and maintain accurate documentation.
