Job summary

WSP USA is seeking an Early Career Substation Drafter in Columbus, Ohio. You will learn and apply CAD knowledge, follow client standards, and work with the Power & Energy Substation Team to deliver precise drawings and layouts.

Under supervision, you will assist with data collection, drafting substation layouts, schematics, and wiring diagrams, using 3D CAD tools and aiming for high accuracy while complying with design standards and regulations.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma and/or associate/technical drafting degree.
• 0–1 years drafting experience or related industry experience.
• Ability to learn client standards and apply CAD knowledge.
• Strong written and verbal English communication.
• Familiar with drafting principles, codes, and documentation practices.
• Experience with CAD tools and collaborative design environments.

Responsibilities

• Assist with collecting data from site, drawings, and specifications to support drafting.
• Produce substation layout drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams under supervision.
• Use 3D CAD software to assist with basic design details and precise drawings.
• Verify dimensions, materials, and procedures per contract requirements.
• Collaborate with engineers and cross-functional teams on project phases.
• Ensure plans comply with city/state/federal regulations and client standards.
• Complete training on assigned tasks and adhere to company policies.
