About the Role

The Substation Foreman is responsible for on‑site supervision of foremen and all craft personnel (e.g., equipment operators, laborers, linemen, apprentices) and their activities to ensure a safe, productive, and quality job is attained and costs are controlled. The role uses independent judgement in decision‑making without direct supervision. Responsibilities include scheduling labor, materials, tools, and equipment to effectively utilize all resources, ensuring work is completed per specifications and contract requirements, while controlling costs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide consistent leadership in the area of safety and perform field safety observations, influence a positive safety culture.
  • Supervise and set direction for all foremen and craft labor on‑site; ensure best use of company resources and adherence to all policies and regulations; provide coaching feedback to foremen and upper management.
  • Schedule equipment, materials, and tools; collaborate with superintendent on all scheduled activities.
  • Ensure safe working conditions, enforce company, job site‑specific, federal, and state safety regulations; discuss concerns with Superintendent.
  • Communicate with Superintendent to update him on project problems and status.
  • Collaborate with Superintendent to plan manpower needs, staffing, hiring, promotion, discipline, termination.
  • Compare labor and equipment production and efficiency to the job estimate; inform Superintendent of cost overruns and resource utilization.
  • Mentor field foremen on work discipline, production costs, scope of work, quality, and safety.
  • Work closely with Human Resources and Safety & Training to schedule and support training and employee development for all positions.
  • Serve as a professional point of contact for customers, potential customers and storm restoration mobilizations.
Key Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Eight years of applicable electrical utility and/or electrical contractor industry experience.
  • Thorough understanding of electric utility safety and operational procedures.
  • Extensive knowledge of distribution underground and overhead systems, operating methods, construction, maintenance, switching, safety, tools, equipment, and work methods.
  • Good written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills; ability to work with others without direct authority.
  • Excellent reading comprehension and interpretation abilities.
  • Problem‑solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
