Substation Engineer - P&C

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a mid-level Electrical Engineer to join our Substation Engineering team. Our team is highly experienced and dedicated to providing high-level professional services to our clients.

The Substation P&C Engineer will work on electric substation design projects for high-voltage utility systems and renewable energy interconnection projects. Responsibilities include applying NESC, NEC, and other standards, and independently producing diagrams and schematics such as one-line, three-line, potential and current, control, and alarm schematics. Familiarity with protection scheme functionality is required; relay setting development is preferred but not necessary. Collaboration with project stakeholders is essential to meet project milestones and expectations.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Design all aspects of high voltage (4kV – 230kV) and EHV (above 230kV) substation projects, including:
• Development of one-line, three-line, potential and current, control, alarm, and communications schematics
• Wiring diagrams, protection and control specifications, I/O and points mapping (preferred), relay settings (preferred)
• Documentation for design calculations, construction, technical support, procurement, and construction phases
• Coordinate efforts with internal and external project team members, including transmission line, distribution line, and telecom engineers
• Work seamlessly with P&C designers to develop schematics and wiring diagrams
• Maintain focus on high-quality work and continuous improvement
• Manage multiple projects efficiently in a fast-paced environment
• Assist in identifying key client interests and drivers

Required Skills

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited program
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in high voltage substation design - P&C
• EIT Certification
• Proficiency in AutoCAD or Bentley Microstation
• Strong knowledge of NEC and National Electrical Safety Code
• Good understanding of industry and technology trends related to substations

Required Experience

Familiarity with IEEE, ANSI, NESC standards; proficient in MS Office; effective communication skills; attention to detail; sound engineering judgment; effective time management; minimal travel expected.

Preferred Experience

• Possession or ability to obtain a professional engineering license within 2 years
• Knowledge of construction practices and project estimating
• Experience with proposal writing and project scheduling
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
