About the Role

Seeking a dedicated Physical Substation Engineer to join a multidisciplinary engineering team shaping the future of the electric power grid in Covington, LA.

In this role, you will design and develop efficient, reliable preliminary and detailed engineering packages for high-voltage electrical substation facilities. You will translate client RFQ requirements into constructible designs, author bills of material (BOM), perform grounding and layout studies, provide technical oversight and mentorship to junior engineering staff, and serve as a lead engineer on assigned substation capital projects.

Design substation physical layouts, including general arrangements, electrical elevations, conduit plans, equipment layouts, and grounding grids.

Conduct electrical engineering calculations and analysis using specialized power system tools (e.g., ETAP, WinIGS, IEEE 80/998 standards).

Prepare preliminary and construction-ready drawing packages, technical specifications, project proposals, bid documents, and material estimates.

Perform quality control and technical peer reviews of electrical engineering work completed by internal engineers and subcontractors.

Serve as the Lead Engineer and Engineer of Record (EOR) on designated substation projects.

Support project execution during construction phases, resolving on-site technical inquiries and evaluating constructability considerations.

Travel to client project sites and field installations as necessary.

Required Qualifications & Experience

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from an ABET-accredited college or university.

Licensure & Certification: Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certified.

Engineering Tools & Standards: Hands-on experience with ETAP, WinIGS, and relevant industry codes (IEEE 80 / IEEE 998).

Technical Breadth: Demonstrated knowledge of physical substation design principles, grounding grid design, and high-voltage equipment layouts.

Desired Qualifications

Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or progress toward a Professional Engineer (PE) license.

Proficiency in 2D drafting and 3D modeling using Autodesk AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, Bentley MicroStation, or Bentley Substation software.

Proven leadership and mentorship skills guiding early-career engineers.
