Substation Engineer 4
Pedernales Electric Cooperative is seeking a Substation Engineer 4 to design and construct complex electrical power systems, analyze protection systems, and support the Cooperative’s Strategic Initiatives.
Location & Compensation
Physical office: PEC Headquarters, 201 S Ave F, Cedar Park, TX 78613. Hybrid work options available; may report to Johnson City or Cedar Park, with periodic travel between locations.
Compensation: Minimum starting base pay $115,473.60 + KPI bonuses + competitive benefits. Total pay range $115,473.60 – $144,342.00.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Compile and evaluate design and test data.
- Operate computer‑assisted engineering software for analysis.
- Prepare technical specifications, drawings, and test reports.
- Coordinate manufacturing, construction, installation, and maintenance activities to ensure compliance.
- Design and maintain electrical instruments, equipment, and systems.
- Perform detailed calculations and fault studies.
- Conduct construction inspections and manage large substation projects.
- Represent the Coop in regulatory compliance efforts.
- Provide guidance and leadership to other engineering staff.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to security protocols.
- Support other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Proficiency with computer systems, AutoCAD, and ASPEN.
- Expertise in substation design, construction, and schematics.
- Knowledge of NERC PRC standards and power system materials.
- Strong time management, prioritization, and communication skills.
- Capacity to anticipate, analyze, and resolve problems.
- Leadership and mentoring abilities.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering field.
- Registered Professional Engineer in Texas.
- Minimum eight years of related work experience.
- Valid driver’s license.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- May require standing, reaching, stooping, kneeling, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
- Travel required.
- Work may exceed 40 hours per week.
- Exempt employees receive fixed bi‑weekly salary.
