Job summary

HDR is seeking a Substation Engineer to join our Power team in Spokane, WA. You’ll coordinate the power design effort through schematic design and contract documents, and interface with project managers and discipline leads to maintain schedule and quality.

Ideal candidates have a bachelor’s in engineering, a PE license, 3+ years in the Power Market Sector, and experience with protection/controls and electrical assembly.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering and PE license required.
  • 3+ years of experience in the Power Market Sector.
  • Experience with substation engineering, protection/controls, or electrical assembly.
  • Proficiency with standard design software (AutoCAD, Revit, PLS CAD).

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate design work through schematic design and contract documents.
  • Lead and participate in code reviews and agency reviews for compliance.
  • Coordinate workload to meet schedule and deliverables.
  • Conduct project-site sessions with PM and other disciplines.
  • Review documents for conflicts and write/edit specifications.
  • Coordinate addenda, RFIs, and COs; implement approved changes.
  • Provide construction contract administration as needed.
  • Perform QA/QC on colleagues' work and contribute to project standards.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

In the role of Substation Engineer, we'll count on you to:
  • Coordinate the work of the power design team through the schematic design development and contract document phase of a project
  • Establish meetings and participate in reviews with various governing agencies for code compliance
  • Coordinate workload to complete the deliverable on schedule.
  • Conduct work sessions at the project site in conjunction with the Project Manager and other disciplines
  • Review project documents for areas of conflict with other disciplines.
  • Write and edit project specifications
  • Coordinate with and assist affected disciplines with addenda, requests for information (RFIs), change orders (COs), and take responsibility to incorporate agreed-upon changes into the project documents
  • Provide construction contract administration as needed
  • Conduct QA/QC on the work of other Engineers, Project Coordinators or Designers, or BIM Technicians as needed
  • Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • A minimum of 3 years experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector
  • Previous experience with an engineering consulting firm
  • Experience in Substation Engineering, with emphasis in Protection & Controls or Electrical Assembly.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
  • Previous experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office as well as standard Power Market Sector design software. (examples include PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, and Revit)
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture
