Job summary

HDR is seeking a Substation Engineer to join our growing Power Delivery team in Bedford, NH. You will work with a national group of engineers to deliver substation projects, overseeing scopes, budgets and schedules while coordinating with Civil/Structural, Networks and Transmission teams.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, a PE license, and prior Power Market Sector experience. Proficiency with PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, Revit and MS Office is expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license required.
  • Experience executing projects in the Power Market Sector.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and standard Power Market Sector design software.

Responsibilities

  • Support preparing scopes, schedules, and budgets and ensure they are met.
  • Understand substation design including yard layouts, grounding, and protection.
  • Prepare calculations for studies and reports (grounding, lighting, load studies).
  • Prepare equipment specifications for procurement and testing.
  • Coordinate design activities with Civil/Structural, Networks, and Transmission teams.
  • Communicate project activities with manager, clients, and others as needed.
  • Possibly mentor and supervise more junior staff.

HDR is looking for a Substation Engineer to join our growing and nationally ranked team of Power Delivery professionals.

Specific duties of the Substation Engineer include:
  • Support preparing scopes, schedules, and budgets, and ensure that schedules and budgets are met
  • Understands physical substation design including yard layouts, plans, sections and details, grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements, interior and exterior raceways, auxiliary AC/DC power systems, and associated bills of material
  • Understands protection and control design including panel arrangements, one lines/single lines, three lines, AC/DC schematics, equipment wiring and relay panel wiring
  • Prepare calculations for studies and reports (grounding, lighting protection, AC/DC load studies, etc.)
  • Prepare equipment specifications for procurement and/or factory acceptance testing
  • Coordinate design activities with other departments (Civil/Structural, Networks, Transmission Line, etc.)
  • Effectively communicate and coordinate project activities with manager, clients, and others as needed
  • Works independently and may direct, mentor, train, and/or supervise efforts of less-experienced EIT's and/or Designers.
  • Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • Preference given to local candidates.
  • Previous experience working for an A/E/C consulting firm.
  • Physical Design Experience or P&C experience with Substations
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
  • Previous experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office as well as standard Power Market Sector design software. (examples include PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, and Revit)

The expected compensation range for this position depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions. Temporary and part-time roles eligible for limited benefits.) {Portland, ME}: $77,140 - $126,730; {Boston, MA}: $97,440 - $160,080; {Bedford, NH}: $85,260 - $140,070; {Rocky Hill, CT}: $89,320 - $146,740; {Providence, RI}: $85,260 - $140,070
