Qualifications Include
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Journeyman Electrician or Journeyman Lineman
- Ability to demonstrate and maintain a good safety record
- Valid Commercial Drivers License, or the ability to obtain a CDL within 6 months of hire, and satisfactory driving record
- Knowledge of applicable codes and safety standards
- Willingness to act as a sub-foreman or foreman
- Ability to work overtime, participate in on-call duties, and handle planned evening and weekend shifts, especially during service emergencies
- Ability to lift and manipulate equipment weighing up to 75 pounds
- Residence within an area approved by the company for quick response to emergencies
- Ability to travel overnight up to 80%
- Ability to obtain a crane operator certification
- Ability to pass an employment physical, drug test, and background check
- Experience in steel and aluminum fabrication and welding is beneficial
Duties Include
- Understanding audible signals and verbal communication for safety and emergency response
- Troubleshooting and maintaining substation electrical systems and equipment
- Performing rubber gloving for low-voltage work
- Erecting steel structures for substations
- Installing or repairing transformers, breakers, re-closers, regulators, switches, and other equipment
- Documenting inspections using computers and software
- Operating heavy equipment like digger/derrick, cranes, skidsteers, forklifts, backhoes, and bucket trucks
- Sampling, processing, and cleaning mineral oil, including handling PCBs
- Working with SF6 gas in electrical equipment
- Leading emergency response efforts
- Providing education and assistance to staff at supported substations
- Acting as Sub-Foreman when needed
- Completing project documentation
- Supervising worksite personnel
- Traveling to installation sites
- Adapting to technological advancements
- Performing steel or aluminum welding for structures and bus assembly
- Patrolling and maintaining facilities and lines
- Organizing equipment and performing maintenance
- Assisting with snow removal to ensure access
- Backfilling trenches for cables
- Following safety standards and ethical guidelines
- Aligning actions with NorthWestern Energy’s values and objectives
This is a full-time position. The union rates are $53.76/hour for Substation Electrician and $56.18/hour for Journeyman Lineman. Benefits include 401K with company match, healthcare, dental, vision, HSA, FSA, Employee Assistance Programs, life insurance, paid time off, and holidays.
