Job summary

Connexus Energy is seeking a Lead Substation Electrical Equipment Technician to lead installation, testing, maintenance and repair of substation and line equipment. The role is based on-site at our Ramsey campus and within our service territory, Minnesota.

The position pays $64.25 per hour under the union wage agreement and includes eligibility for an annual bonus equal to 5% of annual earnings based on company performance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Associate or vocational diploma in electrical/electronic program or related field.
• Valid health card.
• 2 years of experience as Substation & Electrical Equipment Technician, Journey or related experience.
• Ability to meet physical standards: lift up to 85 lbs; push/pull up to 100 lbs; grasp hand tools; hear electrical arcing; smell electrical burning.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support installation, testing, maintenance and repair of substation and line equipment to ensure reliable power supply and safety to members.
• Provide guidance and coordinate daily work assignments; ensure quality and timeliness of maintenance and project work.
• Install and maintain SCADA and distribution automation equipment for monitoring and outage restoration.
• Maintain production statistics and records; manage data entry to company databases.
• Assist with disposal and handling of hazardous material per guidelines and regulations.

Job description

Connexus Energy is looking for a Lead Substation Electrical Equipment Technician to lead and support the installation, testing, maintenance, and repair of substation, line, and associated electrical equipment. This position is responsible for enhancing system reliability and safety while coordinating daily work assignments, providing technical guidance, and ensuring high-quality, timely completion of maintenance and project work.

Location:

Work for this position will be performed both on-site at our campus located at 14601 Ramsey Blvd, Ramsey, MN 55303, and within our service territory.

Compensation:

The hiring wage for this union position is $64.25 per hour in accordance with the union contract. In addition, this position is eligible for an annual bonus with a target payout of 5% of annual earnings based on company performance.

In this position, you will:

• Perform and assist in the installation, testing, checkout, routine and emergency maintenance of substation and line equipment to provide an uninterrupted supply of power and safety to our members.
  • Assist with testing, installing, maintaining and programming equipment controls according to factory and industry standards.
• Install and maintain SCADA and other distribution automation equipment to provide monitoring, switching, and improve outage restoration time.
• Provide work direction to equipment technicians to ensure work is completed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Make recommendations to supervisor or manager related to work performance or training issues.
  • Assign daily duties and examine work for accuracy, neatness and conformity to policies and procedures.
• Maintain an accurate database of production statistics for the purpose of showing overall shop performance and Equipment Shop work production.
• Inspect, test and maintain specialized equipment on the distribution system and within the distribution substations; document results.
• Assists with disposal and handling of hazardous material in accordance with company guidelines and government regulations. Maintain proper records.
• Keeps accurate records for new equipment and ongoing maintenance. Enters data to company databases.

Need to have:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Associate or vocational diploma in a technical electrical/electronic program or related field
• Valid health card
• 2 years of experience as Substation & Electrical Equipment Technician, Journey or related experience
• Ability to meet the physical standards of the job: Lift & carry up to 85 lbs.; Push/pull up to 100 lbs.; ability to grasp hand tools, hear electrical arching and smell electrical burning.

Nice to have:

• Knowledge of distribution system operation including substation & line equipment
• Knowledge of National Electrical Safety Code
• Ability to read electrical schematics – both AC & DC and troubleshoot equipment
• Ability to set up, connect, and operate various diagnostic testing equipment, interoperates, and record results
• Mechanical Aptitude
• Ability to obtain knowledge and practice company safety rules, procedures, and guidelines
• Basic computer skills
