Job description

As a Substation Electrical Engineer III–IV at Milhouse, you will serve as a technical leader and subject matter expert in the design and development of complex substation projects. This role offers the opportunity to lead engineering efforts from concept through construction, mentor junior engineers, and drive innovative solutions that enhance the reliability and efficiency of power delivery systems. You’ll work closely with internal teams, clients, and utility partners to ensure projects meet rigorous technical, safety, and regulatory standards.

Your main responsibilities can include creating electrical protection & control and/or physical layout design deliverables for a range of Substation projects. You will be an instrumental part of our talented Power team that allows for internal growth and endless upward mobility.

Please note this role will follow our hybrid schedule of 4 days in-office at our downtown Chicago office or our Lombard office.

What you will do:
  • Design to client and regulatory requirements per the direction of your Project Management team.
  • Develop and maintain project documentation regarding protection and control design and construction.
  • Support the development of P&C one line diagram, AC/DC schematics, control panel layout and wiring diagram, station service AC/DC distribution diagram, bill of material, cable schedule, etc.
  • Keep Milhouse Engineering management advised of all quality and schedule and budget variances in a timely manner.
  • Vendor drawing review and disposition.
  • Maintaining project files.
  • Creating and enforcing project quality plan.
  • Data and document entry into various platforms.
  • Assist management as directed.
What we are looking for:
  • Proven ability to consistently produce high quality of work.
  • Ability to consistently work independently.
  • Familiarity with applicable IEE codes and standards.
  • Understanding of CAD software.
  • Ability to estimate, plan, and schedule substation projects.
  • Ability to support proposal activities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Windows, Word, and Excel as well as ACAD or Micro Station and Revit.
Your background:
  • 6-12 years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
  • P.E. license required.
$127,200 - $178,100 a year
The actual base pay depends upon many factors, such as education, experience, and skills. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
