Atwell is seeking experienced Substation Physical Designers and Substation Protection & Controls (P&C) Designers to contribute to utility-scale solar, BESS, and high-voltage substation projects. These roles offer opportunities to work on both brownfield and greenfield designs, shaping the future of sustainable energy. Remote work options are available.

Responsibilities

Physical Designer

1. Develop detailed physical layout designs for high-voltage substations, including equipment arrangement, bus work, and grounding systems.
2. Create plan and elevation drawings, section views, and conduit routing using CAD tools.
3. Support design of structures such as steel supports, equipment pads, and foundations.
4. Coordinate with electrical engineers and civil/structural teams.
5. Revise drawings based on feedback and engineering changes.
6. Ensure drawings meet project specifications, standards, and codes.

P&C Designer

1. Develop protection and control schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts.
2. Design control wiring for relays, SCADA, and protection devices.
3. Create single-line diagrams, elementary diagrams, and connection drawings.
4. Revise designs based on updates and standards.
5. Ensure compliance with industry standards.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in substation design.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar CAD platforms.
• Experience with renewable energy or substation projects.
• Understanding of substation components and wiring.
• Knowledge of industry standards is preferred.
• Strong communication skills and teamwork orientation.
