Job summary

Electrical Consultants, Inc. (ECI) seeks a motivated designer to join our San Diego or Ontario, CA office. You will perform electrical and physical design work for substations from 12 kV to 500 kV, and draft as needed, supporting multiple projects.

The role requires a college degree or 2-year CAD/design certificate, expert AutoCAD usage, and strong communication skills. Travel may be required while contributing to on-time, on-budget project delivery.

Job description

Electrical Consultants, Inc. (ECI), a leading power engineering consultant firm, is seeking a motivated individual to join our San Diego or Ontario, CA office as a designer.

ECI specializes in engineering services to electric utilities (substation, protection, transmission), alternative energy systems, communication, oil/gas, mining and heavy industry.

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing electrical and physical design work for electrical substations ranging from 12 kV to 500 kV.

Responsibilities

• Perform substation electrical and physical design work and, when required, drafting for assigned projects;
• Support other projects as required;
• Resolve AutoCAD software operating issues;
• Establish AutoCAD environments per client requirements.

Minimum Requirements

• College degree or two‑year technical certificate in computer‑aided drafting/design and a minimum of 15 years of computer‑aided drafting and designer experience.
• Advanced computer skills and expert in the use, operation and maintenance of AutoCAD.
• Sound operating knowledge of MicroStation is preferred.
• Proven effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Results oriented and capable of completing design assignments with minimal direction and effective in a team environment with strong interpersonal skills, able to interface with team members and clients.
• Strong work ethic with attention to detail, quality, schedule and budget.
• Occasional travel/driving may be required.
• Must not require sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H‑1B) now or in the future.
• Subject to ECI's auto insurance carrier requirements.

Compensation

Compensation Range: $45.00/hr – $71.00/hr.

Salary commensurate with experience and education.
