Job summary

DIS-TRAN Packaged Substations in Lafayette, LA is seeking a Substation Designer to develop field construction and shop drawings using Autodesk Inventor. This role interfaces with structural engineers and project managers to deliver precise designs.

The candidate should read and interpret layout and detail drawings and work well in a team, while handling a high volume of work with minimal supervision.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field from an accredited college or university.
• A suitable combination of education, training, and/or experience in 3D modeling and/or AutoCAD may be considered in lieu of a BS degree.
• Experience using AutoDesk Inventor is preferred; high voltage CAD drafting and/or steel detailing experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Create and/or check general arrangement drawings.
• Create and/or check anchor bolt plans.
• Create and/or check foundation plans and details.
• Create and/or check grounding plans and details.
• Create and/or check lightning shielding plans.
• Create and/or check lighting plans.
• Create and/or check sag and tension drawings.
• Create and/or check material lists.
• Assemble and/or check catalog cuts for construction reference manuals.
• Create and/or check tube cutting schedules.
• Create and/or check bolt counts.
• Create and/or check structural shop and erection drawings.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field

DIS-TRAN Packaged Substations is currently looking for a Substation Designer to join their team in Lafayette, Louisiana. This Substation Designer will be responsible for creating substation field construction and manufacturing shop drawings utilizing Autodesk Inventor. This Designer may interface with the Company’s structural engineers and project managers.

This energetic, self-motivated professional demonstrates the ability to read and understand layout and detail drawings and technical documents. The Substation Designer must work well in a team environment yet have the ability to complete a high volume of work with minimal supervision.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Creating and/or checking general arrangement drawings
• Creating and/or checking anchor bolt plans
• Creating and/or checking foundation plans and details
• Creating and/or checking grounding plans and details
• Creating and/or checking lightning coverage (shielding) plans
• Creating and/or checking lighting plans
• Creating and/or checking sag and tension charts/drawings
• Creating and/or checking material lists
• Assembling and/or checking catalog cuts of equipment and/or material for construction reference manuals
• Creating and/or checking tube cutting schedules
• Creating and/or checking bolt counts
• Creating and/or checking structural shop and erection drawings (Ex. steel details, pfb details, etc.).

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field, such as Engineering, Engineering Technology, Simulation Animation or a related field from an accredited college or University
• A suitable combination of education, training, and/or experience in 3D modeling and/or Auto Cad software will be considered in lieu of a BS degree
• Experience using AutoDesk Inventor preferred
• High voltage CAD drafting and/or steel detailing experience preferred
