Job summary

DIS-TRAN Packaged Substations in Port of Alexandria is seeking a Factory-Built Substation (FBS) Technician to join the Assembly Department. You will read blueprints, erect steel, assemble, and operate machinery to produce high-quality, factory-built substations.

You will work with simple hand tools, use safety equipment, follow layout specifications, and help maintain a safe, efficient workflow in a warehouse setting.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Read and understand measuring devices (tape measure, rules, and combination squares).
• Perform simple shop math (fractions, decimals, whole numbers).
• Experience applying simple hand tools (wrenches, hammer, screwdriver).
• Warehouse or Manufacturing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Read blueprints and assemble components per layout specifications.
• Operate machinery and hand tools safely to assemble substations.
• Move parts using hoists or cranes and position them accurately.
• Maintain a clean, safe work area and promote safety practices.
• Support maintenance and general upkeep of equipment and facilities.

DIS-TRAN Packaged Substations is looking to hire a Factory-Built Substation (FBS) Technician to work from our Port of Alexandria Facility in our Assembly Department. An FBS Technician, as part of a team, assembles custom factory-built substations. The FBS Technician is responsible for reading blueprints, erecting steel, assembling, and operating machinery and more. This individual must be able to perform duties with speed and accuracy to produce a quality product and keep a steady flow of products.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Successfully apply simple hand tools such as wrenches, hammer, screwdriver etc
• Operates safety equipment and uses safe work habits
• Positions and aligns parts to form complete structures, following blueprints and layout specifications, using machinery, and hand tools
• Recognizes, sets up, and operates hand and common power tools.
• Moves parts safely into position, manually or with hoists or cranes
• Keeps the warehouse property in order, including but not limited to routine maintenance and grooming of grounds and facilities and regular and preventative maintenance on all Company equipment and machinery
• Attends safety meetings as requested / instructed
• Operates all machinery and equipment, including the Company's forklift, in a safe manner always
• Promotes company goals
• Works to displays an excellent safety record

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• High School diploma or equivalent required
• Read and understand measuring devices such as tape measurer, rules, and combination squares required
• Perform simple shop math (add/subtract fractions, decimals, and whole numbers) required
• Experience applying simple hand tools such as wrenches, hammer, screw driver etc. required
• Experience working in a Warehouse or Manufacturing environment preferred
