Job summary

DIS-TRAN Packaged Substations in Lafayette, LA is seeking a Substation Designer to create field and shop drawings using Autodesk Inventor. You will interface with engineers and project managers, reading complex drawings and documents.

This role demands accuracy, teamwork, and the ability to manage a high volume of work with limited supervision. Candidates should have a technical degree or equivalent experience in 3D modeling with Inventor/AutoCAD, plus high voltage CAD drafting or steel

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, engineering technology, simulation animation, or related field from an accredited college/university.
• Experience in 3D modeling and/or AutoCAD software may substitute for a BS degree.
• Experience using AutoDesk Inventor preferred; high voltage CAD drafting/steel detailing preferred.

Responsibilities

• Create and/or check general arrangement drawings.
• Create and/or check anchor bolt plans and foundation details.
• Create and/or check grounding, lightning, and lighting plans.
• Create sag and tension charts/drawings.
• Prepare material lists and catalog cuts for manuals.
• Assemble and/or check tube cutting schedules and bolt counts.
• Prepare structural shop/erection drawings (steel details, etc.).

DIS-TRAN Packaged Substations is currently looking for a Substation Designer to join their team in Lafayette, Louisiana. This Substation Designer will be responsible for creating substation field construction and manufacturing shop drawings utilizing Autodesk Inventor. This Designer may interface with the Company’s structural engineers and project managers.

This energetic, self-motivated professional demonstrates the ability to read and understand layout and detail drawings and technical documents. The Substation Designer must work well in a team environment yet have the ability to complete a high volume of work with minimal supervision.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Creating and/or checking general arrangement drawings
• Creating and/or checking anchor bolt plans
• Creating and/or checking foundation plans and details
• Creating and/or checking grounding plans and details
• Creating and/or checking lightning coverage (shielding) plans
• Creating and/or checking lighting plans
• Creating and/or checking sag and tension charts/drawings
• Creating and/or checking material lists
• Assembling and/or checking catalog cuts of equipment and/or material for construction reference manuals
• Creating and/or checking tube cutting schedules
• Creating and/or checking bolt counts
• Creating and/or checking structural shop and erection drawings (Ex. steel details, pfb details, etc.).

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field, such as Engineering, Engineering Technology, Simulation Animation or a related field from an accredited college or University
• A suitable combination of education, training, and/or experience in 3D modeling and/or Auto Cad software will be considered in lieu of a BS degree
• Experience using AutoDesk Inventor preferred
• High voltage CAD drafting and/or steel detailing experience preferred
